The 2025 Nissan Murano Debuts A New Look And More Tech

The all-new 2025 Nissan Murano made its debut today, marking the fourth generation of this two-row crossover. It shows off a new design, new features, and upgraded interior materials. There’s also a new gas engine under the hood and new technologies throughout to make the Murano once again a contender in a crowded segment.

Updated Exterior Styling For Modern Appeal

The Murano is larger this year, growing by 2.6 inches in width accented by flared rear fenders for a bold, aggressive stance. Despite the larger size, it’s still a smaller option than the three-row Pathfinder. Up front, there are ultra-thin Crystal Cube LED headlights along with Nissan’s signature V-motion grille. It includes LED daytime running lights and creates a clean, uncluttered look that makes the Murano more attractive. Available 21-inch wheels and two-tone paint create even more visual impact.

Around the back, the rear wiper is tucked above the rear window, the license plate holder is now lower on the bumper, and the exhaust tips are hidden in an effort to streamline and refine the Murano’s design. The liftgate features an LED tail light that spans the width of the vehicle as a signature lighting element, especially at night. The overall impression of the new Murano is one of a sleek, modern crossover.

An Interior Inspired By Light

The goal here was to create an elegant interior with a minimalist approach. A push-button shifter removes unnecessary clutter from the center console and frees up room for storage and cupholders along with the standard wireless charging pad. There are also capacitive climate controls to remove the need for buttons or knobs.

Nissan is using a new finish on the dashboard called Murano Glass. It employs color-shift graphics and textures and, like the crossover itself, takes its name from the fabled Venetian glass. It’s an eye-catching design element that plays with the light and gives the Murano a more premium look. There are also three interior color themes from which to choose, each inspired by the magical gold hour right before sunset that is famed along the California coast.

An Abundance Of Comfort Features

The Murano lineup includes three trims, all with plenty of comfort features, including a redesigned front seat with better adjustability. The base SV has leatherette seating surfaces, heated front seats, and two-way power lumbar for the driver. The SL adds a heated steering wheel, an eight-way power driver’s seat with four-way lumbar and memory, and a six-way power front passenger seat. The top Platinum delivers a dose of luxury with heated, cooled, and massaging front seats along with semi-aniline leather trim.

A flat-bottomed steering wheel makes it easier to slide into the driver’s seat while a wider door opening for rear passengers makes it easier to slide in back. The panoramic moonroof on the SL and Platinum adds light and makes the interior feel larger and all but the base SV features 64-color ambient lighting to help you create the mood inside your Murano. Rear passengers get available door sunshades and more knee room this year. For the first time in the Murano, those rear seats also feature the Nissan Zero Gravity technology for greater comfort.

Technology To Keep You Safe And Connected

The Murano features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster alongside a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. There’s also standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Google built-in to give you plenty of choices. There are two front and two rear USB-C charging ports along with a 6-speaker audio system. The SL and Platinum get an upgrade with a 10-speaker Bose premium audio system.

New on the Murano is a 3D Intelligent Around View monitor that provides eight different virtual views around the vehicle. This makes navigating through tight spots easier. There’s also an Invisible Hood View that lets you virtually see right through the engine bay so you can more easily see low curbs and other obstacles.

Making long drives easier is ProPilot Assist, which combines cruise control and steering assist. These don’t replace the driver but rather assist and help make long treks less arduous. There’s also ProPilot Assist 1.1, which works along with navigation data to adjust speed ahead of curves along the planned route.

Room For Cargo With The Capability To Tow

This isn’t a huge SUV, but it still has good room for cargo, with 32.9 cubic feet behind the 60/40 split-folding rear seats and 63.5 cubic feet behind the front seats. A power liftgate is standard across the lineup with the Platinum adding motion activation. If whatever you have is too big to fit, then take advantage of the Murano’s tow rating of 1,500 pounds.

Powered By A Gas Engine Only

Despite a growing number of hybrids from the competition, and even plenty of electric options, the new Murano is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder VC-turbo engine with 241 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. That’s a drop from the 260 horsepower in the outgoing V6, but with 20 more lb-ft of torque. This new engine is also a VC-Turbo, which promises to make it a more responsive ride despite the drop in horsepower.

This new engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters rather than the continuously variable automatic in the outgoing Murano. Once again, this should make driving the new Murano more fun and more engaging than the outgoing model.

Nissan once built a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine that was used to power an experimental hybrid Le Mans race car.

There’s a choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive on the base SV while the SL and Platinum make all-wheel drive a standard feature. New frequency-sensitive dampers have been added to the suspension system to improve the Murano’s ride quality, and it also includes electric power steering. Pricing hasn’t been announced and is expected closer to the Murano’s on-sale date in early 2025.
