A Few Unlucky Ford F-150 Lightning Owners Could Face Braking Problems
Ford is no stranger to recalls, and in 2025, the streak continues. From serious safety concerns to smaller batch quality control issues, the company’s recall tally just keeps growing. We can only imagine that it’s a persistent headache for Ford, which led to the brand shuffling its executives over this plight. But just as you’d think there would be fewer Blue Oval recalls, the all-electric F-150 Lightning is now under the microscope – following a recent recall from last month.
According to a new recall document published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford is issuing a safety recall affecting just five units of the 2025 F-150 Lightning pickup built between March 13 and April 24, 2025. While the number of vehicles may be small, the issue is serious: all five are estimated to carry the defect – a potentially dangerous brake issue stemming from improper factory repair work.
Small Screws With Huge Consequences
According to the document, Ford’s investigation revealed that the front brake jounce hose bracket screws on the affected units may have been improperly repaired during final assembly. Specifically, an unapproved fix was used by Ford’s assembly plant offline repair team to address stripped screw holes – a shortcut that didn’t pass Ford’s durability standards.

If the bracket screws loosen or detach, the brake jounce hose could come into contact with the tire, potentially leading to a brake fluid leak, which could result in increased pedal travel and a noticeable loss in braking performance. Needless to say, complete depletion of brake fluid raises the risk of a crash. Unlucky Owners Will Be Notified Soon
Ford flagged the issue internally on May 15, 2025, after its Production Development Core Brake team was alerted to the improper repair procedure. While the improper repair procedure was stopped earlier that month, five trucks had already reached dealerships. Fortunately, as of the recall document’s filing date, Ford says it isn’t aware of any accidents related to this issue.

The unlucky owners of the affected trucks will receive mailed notifications starting July 14, 2025, while dealers have already been notified. The customers will be instructed to visit a Ford or Lincoln dealer for a free inspection and repair. Technicians will check the brake hoses for any damage and replace both left and right jounce hose bracket screws with stronger, self-tapping screws.
