Merino leather upholstery is standard in a variety of exciting colors, including the red and black combination seen here. Other colors in the M5 interior include black, Kyalami Orange/black, Silverstone/black, BMW Individual Taupe Grey/Deep Lagoon, and BMW Individual black/Dark Violet. Rear-seat passenger space is expected to be similar to the sedan, so there should be plenty of space for two adults and reasonable space for three. Automatic four-zone climate control is standard, so those at the back can set their own temperature.

With the rear seats folded, preliminary estimates suggest the M5 Touring will have 57.6 cubic feet of cargo space. Together with the stretched roofline, it offers good versatility for such a powerful machine.

Red M buttons on the steering wheel allow quick access to preferred performance settings. The steering wheel is a three-spoke design with a flat bottom, shift paddles, and leather trim.

As part of the BMW Curved Display, the M5 Touring features a 14.9-inch touchscreen display. It is compatible with over-the-air updates.

The lower center control panel still contains a few key physical controls, including the familiar iDrive rotary dial. A roller-type control handles audio volume, and there is a new gear selector toggle.

At the heart of the M5 Touring is a 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 plug-in hybrid. The V8 makes 577 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque on its own, but the electric motor dramatically boosts the combined output to 717 hp and 738 lb-ft. The xDrive all-wheel-drive system is standard, and the Touring will hit 60 mph in a mere 3.5 seconds.
