BAN vs SL Today Match Prediction- 1st ODI, Who Will Win Today’s ODI Match? 2024

The BAN vs SL series continues with the three-match ODI series after the T20I series. Sri Lanka won the T20I series 2-1 and is now looking to win the ODI series as well. The first ODI will be played in Chattogram on March 13.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have played 54 ODI matches with the Lankans winning 42 matches and Bangladesh 10 games. However, Bangladesh have won three out of the last five ODIs. The ODI series will renew the rivalry.

Team Analysis

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka will be led by Kusal Mendia in the ODI series. he won his first ODI series as a skipper against Afghanistan. The rest of the ODI squad is expected to remain very much the same. Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana will be the key bowlers alongside Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka. Pathum Nissanka missed the T20I series with an injury while Kusal Perera due to a respiratory infection.

Bangladesh

Najmul Hossain Shanton will continue to lead Bangladesh in the ODI series. He was disappointed at how the Bangladesh batters succumbed to the moving ball in the decider T20I in Sylhet. Shakib Al Hasan continues to remain away from the team. Tamim Iqbal is also not a part of the team since the ODI World Cup. In many ways, the team is in transition with only Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim part of the fairly young ODI squad.

Pitch Conditions

17 out of the 28 ODI games have been won by the team chasing. The average first innings score is 223. However, the highest score posted batting first is 409/8 by India against Bangladesh in December 2022. The pitch will be batting-friendly with the spinners expected to have a bigger say than the seamers in the second half.

Form and Fitness

Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera missed the ODI series due to different reasons. Nissanka was injured while Perera had an eye infection. There are no injury concerns in the Bangladesh camp. However, they are missing the likes of Shakib and Tamim who are not part of the current squad.

Form-wise, Sri Lanka are better placed after their recent T20I series win. As said earlier, the Bangladesh skipper lamented not have countered the moving ball in the final T0wi with Nuwan Thusara taking a fifer.

Tactical Acumen

The two captains should take the learning from the recent T20I series. Najmul Hossain Shanto lamented not batting well and his batters will have to be wary of the Lankan spinners. This is the first time Kusal Mendia will lead against Bangladesh.
