2025 Subaru Forester

Base Price: $29,995

The largest option on our list of the best AWD vehicles under 30k is the Subaru Forester. It’s not often you come across a reasonably-sized SUV at this price-point, let alone one with standard all-wheel drive. The base model might still barely squeeze in our set budget, but it’s pretty versatile for the money. You can fit up to five people inside, with 29.6 cu- ft of cargo volume behind the second row, or fold the back seats down for up to 74.4 cu-ft in the base model.

2025 Toyota Prius LE AWD

Base Price: $29,750

Of the best all-wheel-drive cars under 30k, the only hybrid happens to be a great one. The Toyota Prius, specifically the LE AWD, is the cheapest AWD hybrid on the market. There’s no way we could leave this Prius off the list of the best AWD cars since it has great styling in its current generation, more power than many models on this list, and, of course, unbeatable fuel economy at this price point with AWD. The true base model, the LE is slightly cheaper, but adding all-wheel- rive doesn’t push over the edge of the budget just yet.

Toyota Corolla Cross XLE

The base-model Toyota Corolla Cross, the L trim, starts below $25k. Add all-wheel drive, though, and you’re just barely at the edge of $30k. The Corolla itself is a fine car, but we chose the least expensive version of the Corolla Cross with AWD since it’s more practical and desirable for a wider range of Americans. The Corolla might be one of the best-selling cars of all time, but more and more people in the U.S. are buying crossovers and SUVs rather than compact sedans and hatchbacks.

2025 Kia K5 GT-Line AWD

Base Price: $29,550

No, the GT-Line AWD is not the same as the actual Kia K5 GT, but it’s the only trim in the regular K5’s lineup with power to all four wheels. We chose this as one of the best AWD models for under $30 grand since it looks and feels better than a lot of models at this price point. It’s still on the edge of the budget, so it’s not quite one of the cheapest cars of 2025. That leaves room for Kia to give it some reasonably aggressive styling, nearly two-hundred horsepower, and decent fuel economy.

2025 Honda HR-V LX AWD

Base Price: $26,900

Honda gave the HR-V a somewhat substantial price increase for the 2026 model year, despite not really improving it. That means your chance to find one with all-wheel drive for under $30k is right now. The 2025 model year is still a great car, so it’s on our list, but be prepared to spend at least $800 more for the next model year. As far as the current model goes, we think it provides decent interior space for how small it looks from the outside. It’s comfortable on the road, and it comes with a handful of standard features that you might have to spend extra for in other cars.

2025 Subaru Legacy

Some people might be surprised to see the Subaru Legacy on this list, and others might be in shock that it’s still being sold. To be fair, the brand announced that the Legacy would end production earlier this year, so your time to test drive one is running short. We wanted to include this Subaru, though, because it’s surprisingly nice for the price point. We wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s luxurious, but the Legacy certainly leaves a legacy among other models from the brand with a ton of standard features and a relatively premium interior.

Perhaps our favorite vehicle on the list, the Subaru Crosstrek takes everything good about the Impreza, which we’ll get to soon, and gives it a lift with more rugged styling. There’s no doubt Americans love SUVs and crossovers, but you really can’t go wrong with the practicality of a rugged all-wheel-drive hatchback. Leave it stock, and you can blend into the Portland crowds with ease. The Crosstrek has plenty of aftermarket support, though, so it’s a great base to build a fun, reasonably-sized adventure vehicle.

2025 Hyundai Kona SE

Base Price: $26,045

The Hyundai Kona isn’t the most engaging, fun, or otherwise exciting car on the market, but it’s cheap and has all-wheel drive for just $26,045 before destination and other fees. The base model SE trim starts at $24,550 with front-wheel-drive, but adding AWD still keeps it under our price ceiling. What makes this model one of the best, though, is its ability to pair fun for an exceptionally smooth ride. We drove the current Kona, and found its CVT pleasant in traffic.
