Cheap fruit microwave cleaning hack leaves my appliance sparkling and grease-free

I always have lemons lying around the home due to baking and I have recently discovered how well they work when it comes to cleaning. They work great for a variety of jobs, including descaling and removing grime from appliances. Due to the citric acid present in the fruit, they are both antiseptic and antibacterial, which is ideal when cleaning the home.

Microwaves are swarming with germs and bacteria because food splatters and spills create the ideal breeding ground. While I wipe it down quickly after every use, it is recommended that I perform a deep clean once a month to keep it in tip-top condition.

Lemons, which I picked up loose for 13p each, can kill bacteria, remove mould and even banish rust.

Cutting a lemon in half, I placed the whole lemon into a shallow bowl filled with cold water.

I then placed the microwave-safe bowl into the microwave and turned it on for two minutes on the highest setting.

After a short time, the water started to bubble, and a lemon scent flooded my kitchen.

I took the bowl out of the appliance and took a microfibre cloth to wipe around the inside of the microwave.

The grime, which was baked on before, was super easy to wipe away, leaving my microwave sparkling clean.

The steam trapped inside the microwave helped to loosen the grease and grime, allowing for super easy cleaning with no scrubbing needed.

What’s more, the lemon banished any odours and germs that were present in the appliance, and I was really impressed with the hack.

I also use lemons to clean my wooden chopping boards as they are another kitchen item which can harbour bacteria.

To do so, I simply cut a lemon in half, sprinkle it with salt and scrub the chopping boards to remove germs and dirt.
