Chevy Bolt’s 2026 Return To Remain Affordable, And It Won’t Be Alone
Based on the temperature of the electric vehicle market currently and multiple brands rethinking their EV futures based on sales stats, another sub-$30,000 option sure sounds like a good idea right about now. Chevrolet had one, at least, for a few years, with its Bolt EV and EUV models which ran from 2016-2021, then again from 2022 to late 2023. Then, after experiencing its strongest sales year ever, the plug was pulled and Bolt was no more.
Available Years
The reason stemmed from Chevy’s plans to move onto other EV chassis, most notably using their Ultium platform (no longer being referred to as Ultium, by the way), though they did note that the Bolt would be back in a second-generation model, but not until the 2026 model year. The worry was that with the automaker suggesting a larger sized vehicle, pricing would be affected and that low entry-price would be a thing of the past.

All In The Family
Just last week, during General Motors’ Investor Day, GM President Mark Reuss stated that the upcoming generation two Bolt’s pricing “only cost slightly more” than the gone but not forgotten 2023 EUV model. On its way out, the previous Bolt EV hatchback’s base price was $25,600 before tax, registration, and destination fees were tacked on, while the EUV model’s LT trim started at $27,800. Interestingly, Reuss said that even at that low of a price point, the Bolt would in fact be a moneymaker for the brand.
Beyond the anticipation of an affordable entry vehicle into the EV market, Reuss mentioned that the Bolt EUV will be but one part of a family of Bolt models, and that within the group, an even cheaper model would join the line-up. This could prove to be a major turning point for the segment of buyers that are on the fence about purchasing an EV and aren’t committed to spending the sort of money required for a Tesla, or something similar.

Speeding Things Up
The GM President didn’t get into specific details about the returning Bolt, beyond its intended low pricing, but did mention that it would feature the latest technology and much faster charging, both of which would certainly appeal to the sort of audience GM would be catering to. Charge speeds and availability, along with range anxiety have been the most concerning touchpoints in recent years, with brands even collaborating to create greater accessibility to extend travel conditions for electric vehicle owners.
