DRAG RACE: Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Holds Its Own Against Ford GT Supercar

Now that you’ve watched the video, we can discuss it in detail. The sound-off proves that few things can beat a naturally aspirated flat-plane V8. Making a V6 sound good is notoriously tricky, but Ford, Alfa Romeo, and Ferrari have proven that it can be done. With that settled, on to the racing.

From a standing start, the Z06 has the edge, but the Ford GT’s 550 lb-ft eventually comes into play, and it takes the win. It wasn’t a comfortable win, however. Both cars recorded a quarter-mile time of 11.2 seconds, which means this race was won by hundredths or even thounsandths of a second.

Thanks to turbo lag, the rolling half-mile race from 50 mph was not kind to the GT, though it has to be said that a lot of it had to do with driver error. When the GT was in the correct gear and boosting like a boss, it technically owned the Z06.

Again, not by much. It aced the brake test, but you’d expect that from a homologation car.
