Genesis Neolun Concept Previews The Brand’s Biggest Vehicle Yet

Genesis showed up to the 2024 New York International Auto Show with two stunning concept vehicles: the Neolun and GV60 Magma. The former derives its name from the Greek words “neo,” meaning new, and the Latin word “luna,” meaning moon.
“The Neolun Concept was inspired by Korea’s iconic moon-shaped porcelain jars,” said Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke. “It’s the epitome of timeless design and sophisticated craftsmanship.”The Neolun Concept previews the company’s first full-size SUV, which will slot above the GV80 in the lineup.
Though it’s not confirmed yet, we expect the production model to be called the Genesis GV90. Not only will this be the first full-size SUV from Genesis, but it will also be powered exclusively by electricity with no gasoline engine option. No performance specs have been shared at this time.

Genesis Goes After Maybach
Staring at the Neolun Concept, it’s hard not to see some Maybach influence, but executed with the unique styling only Genesis could produce. The exterior design features a principle of “reductive design,” meaning there are no extraneous details. And Maybach isn’t the only brand Genesis has taken inspiration from because this concept also features coach doors like a Rolls-Royce.
Speaking of which, Genesis says it was able to develop coach doors with no B-pillars, which we believe is an industry first; it’s also possible for production, not just the concept, Genesis claims. When the doors open, electric side steps deploy to improve ingress and egress.
As with other Genesis vehicles, twin lights in the front and rear give this concept a unique lighting signature. The concept is painted in a two-tone Midnight Black and Majestic Blue combination, mimicking the night sky.
Ultra-Luxury Interior
Inside, the Neolu clearly looks like a concept, but certain elements may find their way to a production vehicle. Genesis loves to offer bold interior colors, and the Purple Silk leather with Royal Indigo cashmere continues that trend. A real wood floor completes the elegant look.
An “ondol” radiant heating system can warm up the dash, door trim, floor, seat, and center console, likely reducing the load on the battery in cold conditions. As in the GV60, which we called a “quiet rocket” after our test drive, there is a crystal sphere at the front, but this one spins to reveal a tweeter rather than the gear selector.
Taking a page from the BMW playbook, Genesis added an adjustable screen that folds out of the headliner for rear passengers to enjoy. While that will likely reach production, we doubt that the swiveling front seats will be available in the US. Kia has similar seats in the EV9, but not for the North American market.

The GV60 Gets Hotter
Along with the Neolun, Genesis also showed off the GV60 Magma Concept. It does exactly what the name suggests, make the GV60 even hotter. Genesis improved the battery and motor technology, but the company hasn’t made any claims on performance or range.
The most powerful GV60 produces 429 horsepower, which is already pretty potent, but we know there is room for more speed because the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N (which shares a platform with the GV6) delivers 641 hp.“The GV60 Magma Concept will deliver ample power, instilling customers with the confidence to drive with pure excitement and exhilaration,” said Donckerwolke.
Along with an unspecified power boost, the GV60 Magma benefits from larger fenders to accommodate 21-inch flow-formed wheels with integrated aero discs to cool the brakes. Roof fins help channel air to the rear wing, which generates downforce.
Inside, the GV60’s luxury-focused cabin gets erupts with sporty flavor thanks to bucket seats with body-color seatbacks, wrapped in Nappa leather and suede with diamond stitching. The GV60 Magma was shown alongside previous vehicles from the Magma Program: the GV80 Coupe Concept, G80 Magma Special and X Gran Berlinetta Concept.
