IND-W vs AUS-W: Smriti Mandhana Unveils The Motivation Behind Pursuing Cricket As Her Profession

Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana recently revealed the reason behind choosing cricket as her profession. Smriti Mandhana stated that her father, unable to pursue cricket due to his job, harbored the dream of seeing one of his children represent India in the sport.

Smriti Mandhana and Ishan Kishan appeared on the TV quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) on December 25. The duo performed well, securing a prize of Rs 12.5 lakh. They decided to stop the game at the 13th question for Rs 25 lakh as they were unaware of the answer.

Smriti and Ishan successfully answered Rs 12.5 lakh question. The query was about the Indian cricketer debuting in the match where Sachin Tendulkar scored his first international century. The cricketers used their final lifeline and correctly chose Anil Kumble.

They Loved Playing Cricket – Smriti Mandhana

Speaking on the television quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati, Smriti Mandhana emphasized that cricket has been part of her life since childhood, influenced by her family’s love for the game.

“When my father and brothers were kids, they loved playing cricket. Sadly, my father couldn’t pursue cricket as a job. That’s why he wished for both of his children to play cricket, hoping that one of us would get the chance to represent India. So, I’ve been hearing about cricket since I was small, maybe even when I was still in my mom’s womb,” Mandhana was quoted as saying on the sets of Kaun Banega Crorepati.

Smriti Mandhana made her international debut in 2013 and went on to become a prominent figure in Indian cricket over the past seven years. The left-handed batter recently contributed to India’s historic Test victory against Australia at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

Mandhana played a pivotal role with the bat in India’s two innings, scoring 74 runs and an unbeaten 38 runs. The Southpaw hit the winning runs to secure the victory for India by eight wickets.  The hosts achieved a historic first-ever Test triumph against Australia.

I Am Naturally Right-Handed – Smriti Mandhana

The 27-year-old shared insights into her early cricket journey, recalling how she initially assisted her brother during practice sessions. Despite being naturally right-handed, she learned to bat left-handed by observing her left-handed brother in the practice nets.

“I used to go to practice sessions and help my brother by picking up balls. I learned to bat by standing behind him in the practice nets. Even though I am naturally right-handed, my brother is left-handed, so I learned to bat with my left hand by watching him. I stood behind him and observed, and that’s how my cricket journey began,” she added.

Smriti Mandhana will be next seen in action during the three-match ODI series against Australia. The first match will be played in Mumbai on Thursday, December 28. The Indian team will host three T20I matches against the same opponents next month.
