Lexus RZ F Coming As High-Performance Lexus EV

The powertrain will likely feature new motors (either a dual- or tri-motor setup is almost guaranteed), and we expect new battery solutions to be involved too. These are unlikely to be solid-state, however, as hybrids will receive SS batteries first. But Toyota has other battery solutions in the pipeline using so-called bipolar technology.

These high-performance batteries target 620 miles of range, 20-minute charging times, and the ability to expel charge rapidly enough to support use in high-performance vehicles. Toyota’s timeline for this battery technology pegged arrival for 2027-2028, though, so this remains unlikely for the RZ F.

Instead, monopolar performance batteries are expected to arrive in 2026, with 500-mile range estimates and 20-minute charge times, as well as a 20% reduction in battery costs as compared to the bZ4X/RZ’s current battery technology. This seems to be a better timeline for the RZ F’s arrival.

Of course, Toyota could just be protecting the name for future use, but we’d put a few bucks on the alternative.
