Spiders will never come into a home if you do a 10-minute task once a week

Autumn is almost here, which means it is time to get out your Halloween costumes and pumpkin-spiced candles, but it also means spiders will begin to creep in your home. September is the peak mating season for house spiders so they are more likely to wander indoors in search of a mate, and you need to act now otherwise you could be dealing with creepy-crawlies well into next year

While there are many different natural remedies to keep spiders away, one expert from Paffy’s Pest Control has warned they will keep coming into your home unless you stay on top of one simple chore. The expert said: “Dust your home once a week. Spiders love dusty places; get rid of dust to eliminate spider habitats in your home.”

Spiders tend to build webs in undisturbed areas of your home where there is plenty of crumbs, clutter and debris that will attract other insects for them to feed on.

Taking the time to dust will eliminate their food source so they are less likely to stay in a area, and are more likely to move to a more attractive spot with more insects.

Dusting also helps to disrupt early signs of spider activity, such as cobwebs and egg sacs, making the area less suitable for them to settle and reproduce.

It might seem simple, but just spending 10 minutes a week dusting around room corners, skirting boards and windowsills is the absolute best way to prevent spiders coming into your home.

When you vacuum, make sure you are also getting behind furniture as well as spiders will congregate in any hidden spots in our home where three is a lot of dusty build up.

Dusting will cut off a spider’s food supply, it can also help to give your windows a wipe to get rid of any build up concentration so they also do not have a source of water.

The expert said: “Keep in mind that spiders don’t need much water to survive. They can survive off of the water droplets that bead-up on your windows or water that drips on your floor after you take a shower.”

One of the best ways to get rid of water clinging to windows is actually cornstarch, but any humidity in your home will cause lots of water droplets that will attract spiders.

Make sure you are opening windows after showering, cooking or if you have laundry drying indoors as they will greatly reduce the amount of humidity and condensation.

While most people turn to costly insect repellents or natural solutions to deter spiders, the most reliable method is often the simplest, as they will stay away if you just keep your windows clean and home dust-free.
