The Cheapest Tesla Cybertruck May Be Arriving Soon

If you’ve been waiting for the cheapest version of the Tesla Cybertruck to go on sale, 2025 may finally be your year. Tesla currently sells two versions of the Cybertruck: the All-Wheel Drive starting at $79,990 and the Cyberbeast for $99,990. Though the company has not made any official announcements, the long-awaited Cybertruck Rear-Wheel Drive recently popped up on Tesla’s Chinese website, albeit only with a button to “subscribe for updates.”

Since the Cybertruck isn’t even sold in China yet, this is far from a confirmation that the RWD model is almost ready to go on sale. However, there is some more credible information pointing to the truck’s arrival here in the United States. The Environmetal Protection Agency website lists the “Cybertruck Single Motor” as a 2025 model year vehicle that will qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit. This is the most concrete evidence yet pointing to the Cybertruck RWD’s availability.

What To Expect From The RWD Model

Don’t fret if you can’t remember what to expect from the Cybertruck RWD, as even the Tesla website doesn’t contain any specifications for it. For now, we can only officially confirm that the RWD variant should hit 60 mph in 6.5 seconds, which is far slower than the AWD (4.1 seconds) and Cyberbeast (2.6 seconds). Considering that the Dual Motor Cybertruck produces around 600 horsepower, it stands to reason that the Single Motor should produce around half as much since it has half as many motors.

In terms of range, the Cybertruck RWD will actually be less impressive than the AWD model because it will use a smaller battery. Whereas the AWD will travel approximately 315 miles on a charge, the RWD is only expected to cover 250 miles. These numbers do not include the Range Extender, which is expected to arrive in mid-2025. Though it clearly loses performance and off-road capability by dropping a motor and battery capacity, these concessions should significantly pull down the price of the RWD model.

How Much It Will Cost Remains A Mystery

It’s unclear how much the Cybertruck RWD will cost, but it will be the cheapest version of Tesla’s pickup. Tesla originally promised a $39,990 starting price, but inflation and other factors have made that number a pure fantasy. This model was previously listed for pre-orders at $60,990 but was taken off the website in mid-2024. Based on the EPA website, we know the RWD will cost under $80,000 because it qualifies for the $7,500 federal tax credit. The Cybertruck AWD also qualifies, barely, exceeding the $80,000 price cap for trucks if you select even a single option.

Depending on how low Tesla can get the price, the RWD model should allow customers to choose a few optional extras – such as White Decor ($2,000) or Cyber Wheels and Covers ($3,500) – without exceeding the cap. There’s just one significant issue; the Trump Administration wants to get rid of the tax credit, meaning the Cybertruck RWD may arrive too late to claim it.
