‘Ugliest house on the street’ unrecognisable after DIY job
A man who bought the “ugliest house on the street” has completely transformed it. And its new appearance has left many people’s jaws “dropping”.
Renovating a home is no easy feat; it’s time consuming, it’s expensive and it can be very stressful. Many people choose to go through with the hassle and cost of a home renovation though because, once complete, their house looks exactly the way they always wanted it to.
How we feel at home can be a major contributing factor to our overall sense of wellness and happiness. One man was keen to bring his vision for his dream home to life so put in an offer on a tired Victorian terraced house clad in putty-coloured render.
Ash Mazzina, a digital content creator who is set on “embracing the elegance of British tradition with a touch of Italian sophistication”, has built a substantial following on social media after sharing his renovation and interior styling experiences while undergoing a two year renovation on his home.
He has dramatically and sympathetically restored his house in keeping with the Victorian time period of the property. The cladding is gone and the brickwork has been exposed, restored and repointed.
The PVC windows have been replaced with stylish sash windows, while the old PVC door has been similarly swapped in favour of a dark grey wooden door complete with reeded glass windows and brass hardware indicative of a bygone era.
Inside, the transformation continues. There’s stylish herringbone flooring in the hallway which flows seamlessly into the show-stopping kitchen.
Previously, there was a small, tired white kitchen with red and black tiles but now, there’s traditional shaker units in a dramatic dark red complete with wooden worktops and a Belfast sink.
The living room was relatively a blank canvas with white walls and a dark grey faux wood-effect floor, but it’s become a cosy, serene retreat with dark walls and pops of coloured furniture.
Upstairs, the bedrooms are a similar blend of traditional features with bold colour choices and light-coloured soft furnishings and upholstery.
The bathroom is a moody, dark red space kitted out with Victorian-style wall panelling and black and white floor tiles. The sink is housed in a vintage dresser with a marble top with an ornate gold mirror helping light bounce around the space.
Ash shared a tour of the property on TikTok. Over the top of the footage, he penned: “You buy the ugliest house on the street and make it your dream home”.
In the caption accompanying the post, he said: “Here is a mini house tour, two years into our restoring our old Victorian house in London. Some of my favourite additions are the Herringbone flooring and the fireplaces.
“Getting to design this house from scratch was a dream. Hopefully I can give you some inspiration to design your space, and bring back some old world charm”.
The post has, so far, racked up almost half a million favourites and it’s been saved nearly 50,000 times.
In the comments section, interior design lovers were keen to share their thoughts. One person simply said: “Now this is a renovation”.
Another shared: “I was so worried this was going to be renovated like a grey new build, this is gorgeous”.
A third confessed: “My eyes literally physically widened seeing the kitchen, bathroom and garden. I always find they’re the hardest to get right and these are just beautiful”.
Another TikTok user declared: “Literally the only good house renovation I’ve seen on here”.
Someone else said: “My jaw kept dropping” while another fan added: “Wow, you’ve definitely got an eye for beauty and this sir is beautiful. Congratulations”.
