Why Does No One Want The Last 109 Dodge Challenger Black Ghosts?

When Dodge rolled out its set of Last Call models, one particular Challenger stood out from the rest, at least to us lovers of noir. We’re talking about the Dodge Challenger Black Ghost, and just like the Charger King Daytona, the Black Ghost is limited to 300 units only, making it the rarest Challenger among the Last Call models. However, it seems like the Brotherhood of Muscle isn’t taking notice as there are still plenty left in stock on dealer lots across the US.

Using Dodge’s own E-Shop tool that’s supposed to help consumers sort through dealership inventories across America, we found out that there are 110 remaining units of the Challenger Black Ghost as of writing. That’s a third of the 300-unit limited production, which is insane considering the rarity of this model. The average price as seen using the tool is around $130,000, which is a considerable markup compared to the car’s $100,000 MSRP.

Not As Attractive As Dodge Hoped For

Essentially a 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, the Dodge Challenger Black Ghost distinguishes itself from the rest of the Last Call models with its all-black styling, with a black “gator skin” vinyl roof decal over a Pitch Black paintwork. It also comes with a white rear fender graphic, bright ‘Dodge’ and ‘Challenger’ badging, a Midnight Metallic SRT grille badge, Mopar hood pins, a bright fuel cap, and 20-inch Satin Carbon Warp Speed wheels.

Is a special plaque really worth the price of a second Hellcat?

As iconic as the original Challenger Black Ghost is, which fetched over a million dollars at auction last year, the Black Ghost falls short of one thing, especially when compared to the Challenger Demon 170: power. The Black Ghost features a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that’s been bumped up to 807 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque, but these numbers look paltry against the mighty Demon 170’s 1,025 hp on E85 ethanol (880 hp on pump gas). Worse, the Demon 170 has an expanded production volume at 1,000 units, with an MSRP of $96,666. That said, good luck getting one at sticker price.

The Charger And Challenger’s Last Hurrah

Dodge’s Last Call models were supposed to be a last hurrah for the venerable V8 mill before the arrival of the electric Charger Daytona and the start of the era of V6 muscle cars. However, those who are still eyeing the outgoing models are still spoiled for choice. There are over 2,300 units in Dodge’s inventory currently, and that’s just for the Challenger. Factoring in the four-door Charger, over 5,600 new models have been sitting on dealer lots as of last month.
