World Famous Restomodder Wants To Steal Singer’s Thunder
If you haven’t heard of ECD Auto Design before, it’s a Florida-based firm specializing in high-end Land Rover Defender and Range Rover restomods. While those models have been ECD’s bread and butter, it’s toyed with Jaguar E-Types and even Toyota Land Cruisers, on occasion, performing restomod surgeries that range from LS swaps to full electrification.
We’ve spent time with ECD’s builds in the past and never come away anything but blown away. But now, ECD is expanding, launching its new Boutique Studio to offer an elevated service “designed for discerning clients who dream of highly unique vehicles that transcend past the company’s existing product lines.” Specifically, ECD mentions brands like Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Porsche.

ECD is going forward with the premise of “If you can dream it, we can build it,” and is a response to the demand from customers. And ECD is talking a big game.

Claiming “unparalleled levels of customization and artistry” is a big brag in the world of high-end restomodding. ECD specifically mentions Porsche among the brands it expects to go to work on, and that’s a niche thick with crazy levels of engineering and creativity, particularly with the benchmark companies in California alone, like Singer, Rod Emory, and Gunther Werks, and those beyond just California like Dutchmann, which has built up a niche market for extremely high-end Porsche restorations no one else can match. ECD will have to push the game forward and bring in some exceptional talent to entice Porsche enthusiasts with that kind of money burning a hole in their pocket.
A Tough Market Segment To Enter
Porsche restomodders appear to be a dime a dozen, which is why ECD is going beyond just the German marque into a territory most US builders shy away from. In targeting Astons and Ferraris, ECD is hoping to bring a touch of class to high-end restomods that’s been missing from those who have attempted such builds.

The expansion is a significant investment for the company, with the new division operating out of a dedicated facility with its own team of high-end designers and builders. Each car will have a team focused on the build, too, meaning attention never gets pried away from the job at hand and the dedication from start to finish should be unmatched. ECD’s existing client base has been eager to support the expansion, and in the first year, ECD expects to produce 18 vehicles from the Boutique Studio.
And that’s just the beginning. In the next five years, ECD wants nothing less than to occupy the top spot in the segment, becoming an industry leader in manufacturing bespoke builds across a broad spectrum of brands. Given our previous experience with CD’s already high levels of craftsmanship, we can’t wait to see what the new teams are capable of.
