The Rivian R1S Tri-Motor was already the quickest SUV we’ve ever tested, hitting 60 mph in just 2.86 seconds. We didn’t think anyone could possibly need a more powerful version, but the folks at Rivian disagree. After a lengthy wait, the 2026 Rivian R1S SUV and 2026 Rivian R1T are now available in Quad-Motor configuration.

Rivian owners may remember that the first-generation R1 models were available with a Quad-Motor setup that produced 835 horsepower. Since the Tri-Motor models now deliver 850 hp, clearly the Quad-Motor needed to be improved; it now generates 1,025 hp and 1,198 lb-ft of torque. Get your barf bags ready.

Rivian says the R1S Quad will hit 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds, though our Tri-Motor test vehicle bested the manufacturer’s estimate. Thanks to its longer wheelbase, the R1T Quad hits 60 mph in 2.5 seconds, and it will pass the quarter-mile mark in just 10.5 seconds. Both variants get Rivian’s Max Battery Pack, which measures 140 kilowatt-hours and provides up to 374 miles of range, depending on tires. Like the Tri-Motor, the Quad features a Conserve Mode that enables 400 miles of range by disabling the rear motors. Opting for all-terrain tires drops the range to as low as 325 miles.

New Performance Features

Along with the extra motor and power, the Quad-Motor models also debut some new performance features from Rivian. Each motor is individually controlled, meaning it can torque vector to deliver precise handling and a near-perfect launch. Launch Mode now adds a Launch Cam, which uses the exterior cameras to record your launch control starts, and overlay real-time stats. Coming in September via a software update, owners will also get a RAD Tuner, which lets them customize the car using savable drive modes like “Rally” and “Sport.” There’s even a pre-set Desert Rally Mode, which was created when the R1T became the first EV to win the Rebelle Rally in 2023, and a Hill Climb Mode, which was created when the R1T became the quickest production truck on Pikes Peak.

Other new features include Kick Turn (coming in September), which allows the Quad-Motor models to turn tighter on dirt by clicking a button. It slows down or reverses the inside wheels with the stability control on, off, or reduced.

Plenty Of Customization

Rivian’s signature level of customization isn’t hindered in the Quad-Motor models. You can spot a Quad via its Laguna Beach Blue brake calipers and model badging, plus a Gear Guard badge at the back. Customers can opt for two 22-inch wheels with all-seasons or Ultra High Performance tires, or two 20-inch wheels wrapped in 34-inch all-terrain tires. There’s also a Launch Edition version with special badging and unique Launch Green paint, though buyers can also select Storm Blue. This model also includes lifetime Rivian Autonomy Platform+ access, Lifetime Connect+, a camp speaker, and key fob.

Both the R1T and R1S get the Ascend interior with quilted seats, extended stitching, and plaid accents. A bronze metal finish is used across the dashboard, doors, and speaker grilles. Customers can choose from three interior color and trim combinations: Ocean Coast with driftwood, Black Mountain with ash wheel, and Slate Sky with Walnut Wood. These models come fully-loaded with features like the Dynamic glass roof, Rivian premium audio, air compressor, and Darkout Package.

R1S/R1T Pricing & Availability

Deliveries of the R1T and R1S Quad-Motor start in July 2025, meaning they should be available very soon. These are the most expensive versions of the R1T and R1S, respectively, though they are more reasonable than we initially expected. Both models will ship with a built-in NACS port, meaning they can charge natively on Tesla Superchargers, and will include a complimentary CCS adapter.

You can get an R1T Quad starting at $115,990, or $119,990 for the Launch Edition. The R1S Quad is a little pricier, starting at $121,990 or $125,990 for the Launch Edition. These are among the quickest and most capable EVs on the market, and the price is justified by the performance.
