718 Cayman And Boxster Sales Are Surging As Porsche Prepares To Kill It

It’s early July, which means car manufacturers have been releasing their Q2 2025 sales reports. The numbers are looking up for Ram V8s. Not as much for Kia EVs. Porsche reports a strong sales year thus far in the United States. Sales have increased 11.4% year-to-date, from a record Porsche sales year in 2024. A major contributor to that surge is one of the last vehicles we would have expected: the 718 Cayman/Boxster.

Porsche 718s Have Been Selling Like Crazy

Porsche sold 3,679 units of the 718 Cayman and Boxster year-to-date in 2025. That figure represents a 74.2% improvement over last year’s first-half total of 2,112. Factoring in a strong Q4 2024, the 718 Cayman and Boxster are up 78.7% year-over-year in the last three quarters.

That success marks a stark change for the 718, which had seen its sales flagging. The Porsche 911 outsold it nearly three times over, despite a dramatic cost premium. That was not too surprising. The current 982 generation debuted back in 2016. The flat-six-powered models are now three to five years old, too. Most buyers who wanted a 982 Cayman already have one.

It’s Last Call If You Want An Affordable Porsche Sports Car

Part of the reason for the 718’s sudden popularity is that it’s leaving the lineup. Porsche will phase out 718 production starting in October. As of this writing, Porsche has no plans for a like-for-like replacement. Porsche is, however, launching a new electric sports car as a replacement. Even if the automaker scuttles that plan, global 718 sales have not justified building another combustion model.

The new 718 looks like the lovechild of a 911 and a Taycan.

Porsche is also particularly vulnerable to US tariffs. The brand does not produce any vehicles in the United States (and has no plans to do so). We can’t predict how mercurial US tariff negotiations with the EU will play out. But Porsches probably won’t become cheaper. In short, if you’ve been looking to pay less than $125,000 for a new Porsche sports car, now is the time to buy.

The 718 Cayman and Boxster Are Not The Only Porsches Selling Well

Porsche’s best-selling vehicle, the Macan crossover, sold 14,563 units during the first half of 2025. That represents a 21.3% increase. Buyers could be snapping up affordable Porsche models while they can. Though the Macan also added its new electric model to the sales mix.

Panamera sales have jumped 56.4% year-to-date with 2,620 units sold. Credit the new third-generation model being at dealers. Both Porsche’s Cayenne crossover and Taycan EV are up slightly through the first half of the year as well. The 911 is down nearly 20% year-over-year. But maybe Porsche’s special edition Club Coupe could help boost sales numbers.
